A Million Miles Away

“I’m so sorry,” the doctor says,
as the tears run down my face.
Disappointed, but hopeful,
for life will come everyone says.
Just wait . . . in time.

“I’m so sorry,” the doctor says again,
as I hang my head in shame.
Broken, yet able to walk away this time,
for I have failed.
Just wait . . . in time.

More pain, more sadness, more tears.
Months go by,
the years pass,
and then
You.

In a dream far away, I meet you.
I see your big, beautiful eyes,
I see your tiny hand reaching for mine,
And then I wake up
Just wait . . . in time.

As if in a paint-by-number life,
I begin to get closer to you.
I hear your cries, I can feel your tears,
and then I see a sign which reads,
“Don’t ever forget.”

A million miles away I wait for you
Excited and scared I wonder if you know me,
if you will love me.
Our lives will change forever and then
it’s time to go.

A million miles away I see
Tiny beds, tiny smiles
little food and big hearts.
I come to you and you cry,
I leave you and I cry.

It’s so hard in this place,
not knowing what to do, where to go,
no one understands me
but you.
This is your home.

You have known me all along,
We were meant to be, you and I
You have loved me forever.
And I have loved you even longer.
Home at last.

As I rock you to sleep and I look in your eyes,
my tear runs down your beautiful face,
and I remember my struggles, my pain
For you were worth it all.
I love you.

Then I sing to you a poem
from a book read to me by my mother
“I’ll like you forever, I’ll love you for always
as long as I’m living,
my baby you’ll be.”

My world began when I saw you,
my heart began beating when I held you
for the first time.
I loved you before I met you,
a million miles away.

Making a Difference

A well known author was vacationing on a beautiful coast. One morning, very early, he was walking along the beach.

In the distance he saw a lone figure dancing. Fascinated by this celebration of the dawn, he moved closer.

It was then he realized that the young man was not dancing, but was picking objects up from the beach and tossing them out into the sea in on graceful movement.

As he approached the young man, he saw that he was throwing starfish. "Why in the world are you throwing starfish into the water?" he asked.

"If the starfish are still on the beach when the tide goes out and the sun rises higher in the sky, they will die," replied the young man as he continued tossing them out to sea.

"That's ridiculous! There are thousands of miles of beach and millions of starfish. You can't really believe that what you're doing could possibly make a difference?" the observer countered.

The young man picked up another star fish, paused thoughtfully and remarked as he tossed it out into the waves, "It makes a difference to this one."

Butterfly

God
are you real??????
The little child whispered, "God, speak to me"

And a meadowlark sang. But the child did not hear. So the child yelled, "God, speak to me!"

And the thunder rolled across the sky But the child did not listen.

The child looked around and said, "God let me see you" And a star shone brightly But the child did not notice.

And the child shouted, "God show me a miracle!" And a life was born But the child did not know.

So the child cried out in despair, "Touch me God, and let me know you are there!"

Whereupon God reached down And touched the child. But the child brushed the butterfly away And walked away unknowingly.

-Anonymous Take time to listen. Don't be that child. Often times, the things we seek are right underneath our noses, Don't miss out on your blessing because it isn't packaged the way that you expect....

Different Trips to the Same Place

Deciding to have a baby is like planning a trip to Australia. You've heard it's a wonderful place, you've read many guidebooks and feel certain you're ready to go. Everyone you know has traveled there by plane. They say it can be a turbulent flight with occasional rough landings, but you can look forward to being pampered on the trip.

So you to to the airport and ask the ticket agent for a ticket to Australia. All around you, excited people are boarding planes for Australia. It seems there is no seat for you; you'll have to wait for the next flight. Impatient, but anticipating a wonderful trip, you wait - and wait - and wait.

After a long time the ticket agent tells you, "I'm sorry, we're not going to be able to get you on a plane to Australia. Perhaps you should think about going by boat!"

"BY BOAT!" you say. "Going by boat will take a very long time and it costs a great deal of money." So you go home and think about not going to Australia at all. But you have long dreamed of this wonderful place, and finally you decide to go by boat.

It is a long trip, many months over many rough seas. Meanwhile, you friends have flown back and forth to Australia two or three more times, marveling about each trip.

Then one glorious day, the boat docks in Australia. It is more exquisite than you ever imagined, and the beauty is magnified by your long days at sea. You have made many wonderful friends during your voyage, and you find yourself comparing stories with others who have also traveled by sea rather than by air.

You will always wonder what it would have been like to fly to Australia. Still, you know God has blessed you with a special appreciation of Australia, and the beauty of Australia is not in the way you get there, but in the place itself.
